“Work like hell and be happy” was among the most memorable of Helen Louise Felton Moser’s exhortations, which is why I passed it along to her grandchildren. Debbie and I christened our first and only sailboat, the Helen B. Happy in her honor. It reminds me of Mom and also her life as a hard worker and wonderful mother.

She also gave other counsel that I have never forgotten and often employ in my own life. Mom was a conversationalist, and even as a child, I could see that people enjoyed talking with her. Her advice to her sons was, “Talk with people about themselves, and they will enjoy the conversation.” Another was, “The most pleasant sound to most people is the sound of their own voice.” This was excellent advice for a future lawyer. Thanks, Mom.
