June 1969 was a sweet respite from the Army, Korea, and the DMZ. An Honorable Discharge was family, friends, an open door to the future, and a return to civilian life. YVC represented a past failure that could not be ignored.
I had to apply for readmission to YVC and appear before the same faculty committee that had denied my application to continue my student tenure in 1967. They saw that I was a different person and gave me a second chance. I started classes in the fall with new energy and focus, fully aware that this could be my last opportunity to become a college graduate. I declared my major in law enforcement, performed well, and obtained an AA degree in Technical Police Science in May 1970.
