The Water Lies, Amy Meyerson

This book grabbed my attention in the first chapter and did not let go. The Water Lies is a psychological suspense novel with two first-person protagonists. Amy Meyerson knows how to get you into the deep end of the pool by creating characters you like, who have a lot to lose and are not unlike people we know in real life. Before I knew it, I was invested and couldn’t stop turning the page (actually swiping left in the Kindle format) to the next chapter.

Readers need to pay attention to the details in the first chapter to follow the mystery. Tessa is a very pregnant mother, married to a doctor who forgot to attend an ethics class in medical school, and Barb is the putative grandmother of one of Tessa’s children and the mother of a murdered woman found in a canal not far from Tessa’s home. They are the narrators. Though this book was free on Kindle and is not in my favorite genre, I would pay to read it again.
