Anatomy of a Revived Church, Thom S. Rainer

I read Anatomy of a Revived Church over a several-month period with a discussion group from my church, focusing on a few chapters at each meeting, and exploring ways to apply the ideas to our church context. It helped that some of our church staff and our leadership team were also reading the book. This small but powerful book is intended to help churches reimagine and reexamine their mission and ministry. The author is a respected church consultant and author of several books. His straightforward presentation and blunt warnings may come as a shock to people used to a more gentle approach in church.

The seven findings he identifies are: Accepting responsibility, overcoming the traps of traditions, expanding the scorecard, committing to powerful prayer, dealing with toxins, seeking silver bullets no more, and choosing meaningful membership. The conclusion for churches that are alive but struggling is, Change Or Die!
